Optical fiber network experiencing 'technical faults' due to heavy rains, floods
The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd on Friday said that its optical fiber network is experiencing "technical faults" due to heavy rains and floods and assured subscribers work is underway to restore services.

"Due to heavy rains and floods, PTCL's optical fiber network is experiencing some technical faults," read a statement posted on Twitter.

"As a result, PTCL users in Northern and Central regions are facing internet outage," the statement said, adding that teams are working to restore the services "on priority".

Earlier, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said internet connectivity problems that have been reported by the PTCL have been caused by an "issue" in data networks between the South and North regions.

"As reported by PTCL, issue has been reported in data networks between South and North which is causing internet connectivity issues," the PTA said in a statement on Twitter.

Without elaborating any further on the nature of the problem, PTA said that the "issue" is being investigated.

The statement added that the PTA is monitoring the situation and will keep users updated.

Sindh to launch world’s largest vaccination drive against measles from Nov 15

In a bid to protect the children from measles and rubella, the Sindh government has decided to launch the world’s largest immunization drive against contagious diseases in the province from November 15. As many as 38 children have died from measles in the province so far during the current year. During the 12-day vaccination drive, 19 million children from 9 months to 15 years would be given mandatory shots of measles and rubella vaccine, officials said Monday. In addition to this, two drops of polio will also be given to 8 million children under five years of age in this campaign. AstraZeneca antibody cocktail succeeds in study to treat COVID-19

AstraZeneca’s experimental COVID-19 drug has helped cut the risk of severe disease or death in a late-stage study, the British drugmaker said on Monday, a boost to its efforts to develop coronavirus medicines beyond vaccines. The drug, a cocktail of two antibodies called AZD7442, reduced the risk of severe COVID-19 or death by 50% in non-hospitalised patients who have had symptoms for seven days or less, meeting the main goal of the study. AstraZeneca’s therapy, delivered via injection, is the first of its kind to show promise both as a preventative medicine and as a treatment for COVID-19 following multiple trials.
