Prescribe medicines with generic and not brand names, DRAP tells Pakistan's doctors

Image
All provinces have been asked by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) to make sure doctors prescribe medicines with their generic names in the public and private sectors. DRAP gave the instructions after public complaints on the PM’s Citizen's Portal against pharmaceutical companies and doctors reportedly colluding to provide people with costlier medicines under a brand name. A letter was written to the health secretaries of all four provinces, Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan and the Islamabad commissioner by DRAP Pharmacy Services Director Dr Abdur Rasheed. It said citizens had complained through the Prime Minister’s Performance Delivery Unit (PMDU) against company-influenced brand-based prescription of medicines by doctors in government and private sectors. "This practice adds to the economic burden of the country and puts financial load on patients due to purchase of pricier brands. Such practice is also against the Code of Ethics for medical and d...

As many as 10,000 doses of the CanSinoBio coronavirus vaccine developed by China are lying useless at a warehouse in Karachi for the last 10 days as the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan awaits approval to release the vaccines. The single-dose Convidecia vaccine was imported by private company AJM Limited in Pakistan. “This shipment was to be supplied to three hospitals in the country, but it has not yet been released by the DRAP due to red-tapism,” an official of the National Health Services. Pakistan had granted emergency use authorisation to China’s CanSino Biologics Inc’s COVID-19 vaccine in February, 2021 following its successful trials at various health facilities in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The federal government also purchased 60,000 doses of the Chinese vaccine last month, which are currently being used to inoculate the elderly and disabled. https://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=https%3A%2F%2Fjazzpackagess.blogspot.com%2F https://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=ht...

US pauses J&J COVID-19 vaccine over rare blood clots

Image
US federal health agencies on Tuesday recommended pausing the use of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine after six women under 50 given the shot developed rare blood clots, dealing a fresh setback to efforts to tackle the pandemic. Following the news, Johnson & Johnson (J&J) said it was delaying the rollout of the vaccine to Europe, a week after regulators there said they were reviewing rare blood clots in four recipients of the shot in the United States. The moves come after European regulators said earlier this month they had found a possible link between AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine and a similar rare blood clotting problem that led to a small number of deaths. J&J’s single dose vaccine – most COVID-19 shots are delivered over two doses – and AstraZeneca’s low-cost vaccine are seen as vital tools in the fight against a pandemic that has claimed more than three million lives. The White House said the pause would not have a “significant” impact on its plan to ...

According to the report, the age limit for the CanSinoBIO's single-dose coronavirus jab has been reduced from 80 to 70 years, meaning that septuagenarians in Islamabad may now get themselves vaccinated. Asad Umar — the federal minister for planning and development, as well as the head of the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), Pakistan's nerve centre to monitor the coronavirus situation — said Tuesday the effects of stricter restrictions, wider lockdowns, and rigorous implementation of the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) were starting to show. Initially, the number of positive coronavirus infections had begun declining but cases at the intensive care units (ICU), as well as the mortality rates, could remain high for some time due to the situation over the past two weeks, Um...

A bench, headed by Chief Justice Qaiser Rahid, directed the government to ensure that immoral content is not uploaded to the app. “What action have you taken thus far [to have objectionable content removed from the app]?” the top PHC judge questioned the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) director general at the start of the hearing, to which the latter replied that the authority raised the issue with the TikTok management. The management has hired a focal person who will handle the issues of immoral and illegal content that is uploaded to the app, he said.
